dc.description.abstract | The timber that is currently used must meet high strength requirements in order to be sold on the Swedish market. The quality of the timber's strength is not evenly distributed and it is extremely important that the defective areas are removed so as not to compromise the timber's overall strength. Through finger jointing, the approved parts can be joined into a plank by gluing and pressing. Derome possesses such a line whose running time has been less than optimal. The study utilized an abductive procedure to identify and highlight improvement opportunities for the finger joint line, and was in the style of a case study at Derome Timber in Derome, Veddige. By combining collected data from interviews, internal databases, and observations, a simulation, pareto chart, as well as ishikawa diagram was established. The collected data is analyzed based on theories around Lean Manufacturing, The Toyota Way, Total Productive Maintenance, and Reliability-Centered Maintenance. Whereupon proposals for improvement measures were drawn up to increase the running time in the finger joint. The results showed that several causes contributed to the majority of the total stop time, where the underlying factors of the causes could be significant. The factors that affected the driving time were underprioritization, lack of training, absence of clear routines and instructions, disorganization, and communication regarding improvement work. The results were analyzed and discussed in comparison with previous studies in the field. Whereupon a basis for further studies was added. | |
